Safe keeping and mounting

Pastels colors have the same stability as aquarelles and oil-paintings. Pigments and dyes are also the same, only the cohesive is different.

I use the pastel of the leading brands containing the ingredients of the highest quality (Rembrandt, Ferrario color, Schmincre, Winsor & Newton).

No color can stand the bright burning sun; that is why the painting should be installed in some place out of the reach of direct sunlight. For pastel and material tie better, the special pastel rough paper is used; sometimes this paper can be thicker - almost like cardboard.

Though the pastel is dry material, it does not peel off.

Mounting

Mat, glass, frame

Mat is very important for pastels mounting. The real mat of 2 mm thickness creates the layer between the glass and the painting which is "a must" for the pastel undamaged state; this layer maintains the microclimate and provides better safety for the painting. Double mat is even better - the look is more effective and it creates the thicker layer.

Glass is sine qua non.

Glass can be opal – without flash (museum quality), matte and ordinary - 2 mm thick and less to avoid the remarkable additional nuance that gives glass to painting.

Glass without flash (opal) keeps colors vivid and does not reflect your interior. Matte glass has a special coating smoothing all the reflections. If you plan to install the painting opposite the window and it is near enough, the matte glass is better.

Ordinary glass changes a little bit the nuance of the painting and if the disposition is not good, it can reflect the interior.

Frame

Everything depends on the interior and the idea. Mainly I use aluminum frames (Nielsen) of different colors. Sometimes I create the fillets based on simple wooden frames using grounds and acrylic dyes.
